The Violet Town Business Network in conjunction with VTAG was successful in its application to Strathbogie Shire Council for funding to improve the appearance of the median strip in Cowslip Street. Jo Beavis is coordinating the works which will be undertaken by volunteers from the Violet Town Business Network.

The works include improving the soil structure, repairing and up-grading the watering system as well as planting the median strip with Dianella a native flax lily which is indigenous to the area as well as local ground cover salt bushes, ensuring the area has adequate mulch.

Some areas will also be paved. Alongside this the Shire will prune the Liquid Ambers requiring attention. These works will not only improve the appearance of Cowslip Street but will also assist in reducing future maintenance. Works commenced in May 2008.

Promoting and Marketing Violet Town

The Violet Town and District community is a forward thinking one. We have the attractiveness of being known as a warm and friendly community that is prepared to work together to get things done, we have energy and diversity. This is what makes us a community of choice for many.

During 2007 a Marketing and Promotion Committee came together undertook a survey of residents, businesses and visitors. The responses we received helped us to gather our thoughts and create a community brand that suits our town and district. We were very fortunate that over 125 community members responded to the surveys and participated in discussions that lead to the engagement of a graphic designer, Richard Telford.

The Violet Town and District graphics have been developed so they can be used community-wide. The different versions of both the logo and banners will be available on the Violet Town Website with a guide to how they are most effectively used alongside existing stationary and marketing materials.

This will help all businesses and not for profit and community organisations to access and use them easily. The graphics were launched at the Violet Town Community Market in July 2008.

The Violet Town Business Network and the Marketing and Promotion Committee will continue to work on the development of a Marketing and Promotion Plan and ways in which we can enhance the promotion of violet town and district using the graphics in 2008.

Business Directory

Violet Town and Districts diverse and thriving business enterprises have been captured in a business directory. The Violet Town Business Network has developed both a hard copy and electronic business directory over the 2007-2008 year. The directory identifies over 100 local businesses. This is a great way to promote the diversity and expertise that exists within our community and services, local, state, national and international markets. The first edition was launched at the Violet Town Community Market in July 2008.

Business Survey Report

Information gained from the survey has been used to guide and support the work of the Violet Town Business Network. The Business Survey Report was completed in April 2007 as part of the StreetLife project which was funded by Regional Development Victoria, Strathbogie Shire Council and Violet Town Action Group.
