Kool Skools CD Launch and Dance Concert.

After the success of the Violet Town Community House 2006 Kool Skools project, a group of sixteen young people ranging in age from 12-20 returned to Melbourne on the 17th and 18th August to take part in the 2007 Kool Skools.

Some of the participants in Kool Skools 2007: Rear Right Mia Durance, John Combrink, Sean Mackrell, Billy Pesavento, Clayton Sessions, Johannes Keifel, Ramesh Lobert, Tom Beadle, Pat James, Kim Howe, Will Mackrell, Indigo Walton-Guerin, James Ashworth.

Over the two days in Melbourne the young people recorded 12 original songs, made a video clip and completed a photographic project. The CD called BUY ME will be launched on Saturday 1st December at 7pm in Violet Town Memorial Hall.

"The 2006 Kool Skools project was a great success with our young people being recognised, both locally and nationally throughout the project. This year however there musicianship skills have grown, as have their abilities as film makers and photographers and the CD and other materials they have produced are fantastic." "We are really proud of all of them" said Andie Guerin, project facilitator".

The Youth Music Program operates every second Sunday from 2pm at the Community House in Cowslip Street Violet Town. All young people are welcome to attend and are encouraged to pursue the music which they love and are interested in. For more information contact the Violet Town Community House on (03) 5798 1288.

To add to the excitement of the CD Launch the Children’s Dance Class will be special guests performing some original and fun dances. Cost will be $7 per head.

Building Project

Well finally it looks like we are ready to start on the renovations at the Community House office. A builder has been appointed and the preliminary works are nearly completed.

We still need to raise some money for the project so we will be holding several events over the next few weeks. We hope you can support us.

Old Time Ball

Official Fundraiser for the Community House Building Project, 17 November 2007 from 8pm till late.

Demonstration Dances; Antique Dress Fashion Parade; Debutante Presentation (all ages welcome); Old Time Dance Band; Supper Included; Ladies without a Partner Welcomed; Pick Up and Drop Off Available.

Tickets available at the community house office. Cost $25 per person or $45 per couple. Concessions available Volunteers welcomed.

Car Rally (Please note Date Change) Sunday 11th 2007

Leaving the Community House at 11am and then following a fun and challenging journey through Violet Town and the Strathbogie ranges. Lunch and Afternoon tea included Cost $25 per car. All proceeds to the community house building project. Please book on 5798 1288.

Skills Shed Hours.

With the appointment of our new skills shed coordinator Jodie Ramage we have changed the Skills Shed hours. They are now Tuesday from 10am – 3pm. So please drop in and visit Jodie at the Shed, she would love to see you and welcomes your input and ideas.

Fast Track to Gaining a Qualification

On the 13th November at 10.00 am – 12.00pm, 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Mark Horner from the Goulburn Ovens Skills Store will be at the Violet Town Community House to help members of the community look at there current skills and introduce participants to the concept of recognition of prior learning (RPL). The RPL process looks at the skills you use on a day to day basis, in your own business, your job and your life, and then acknowledges those skills as you gain a formal qualification.

The Skills Store uses Competency Navigator (a software program) to assist in identifying your skills and matching them to potential national qualifications. You will be guided through a preliminary assessment process, where you will receive:

The Goulburn Ovens Skills Store is a partnership between GOTAFE and the Hume Region ACFE Providers.

This is a fantastic way to achieve qualifications and return to further education.
