The official opening of the Violet Town Community House was a great success on Saturday 9 August. Approximately 80 people visited the facility and had a look at the changes.

Rachel Maza-Long performed the Indigenous welcome and Ella Hooper officially opened the building. After the opening visitors were entertained by Freyja Edney, SI, Risk of Electric Shock and Mass Confusion. A Print Exhibition by Tony Phillips, paintings by the Painting Group and Digital Photography by the Youth Program were also on display.

The $85,000 project was a true community effort; over the past two and a half years, with many groups, businesses and individuals making the project a success. $33,000 funding was initially received from the Department of Victorian Communities.

Violet Town Action Group then added $8,000 to the kitty, Violet Town Lions $2000, Violet Town Op Shop $500, Rocye Vale Stud $250, and $5250 was allocated from the Shire of Strathbogie Community Complex painting project. The Community House also allocated $9800 to the project and community fundraising was to the value of $3000.

The in-kind portion of the project was valued at $25,000 with Trevor Northey Carpentry, CDM Engineering and Design, Hand Picked Plants, Violet Town CFA, Aldo Borg, Andie Guerin, Steve Mackrell, Glen Berry, Di Mackrell, Angela King, Kim Lawrence and thirty volunteers making the project a success.

"Community support has been overwhelming for this project. People have been so generous with their time, arriving and taking on tasks. It has been amazing" said Annette Walton

"We now have a Community House facility which is comfortable and user friendly and that will reflect the needs of our community. We would like to invite all members of the community to drop in, have a cuppa and share their ideas whilst seeing what is on offer for them"
