Community House News and Program

What a wonderful Autumn we are having. Once again some great activities have been planned for Violet Town and District over the next few weeks.

The Violet Town Community House is offering an exciting and full holiday program for the school holidays which is diverse and inclusive. Programs are often open to all ages (unless specified) and we welcome your involvement. For prices and further information please contact the VTCH on 57981288.

Traditional Basket Coiling with Dot Petersen will be held on the 27th March 1—3pm and the 3rd April 1—3pm and the 10th April 2pm – 4pm. Cost $10 bookings preferred. If you would like to create a bigger basket, come along to all three workshops. More info 03 57981288

Monday 29th March—Avenel Maze - Leaving Violet Town at 12pm and returning at 5pm. Come along challenge yourself in the maze and play mini golf. BYO lunch and drink.

Tuesday 30th March—Mansfield Zoo - Leaving Violet Town at 10 am and returning at 5pm. Come along and see the Lions and other exotic animals at the Mansfield Zoo. Lunch available for purchase or BYO.

Wednesday 31st March-Beechworth Ghost Tour High School aged and over. Come take a guided tour of the Mayday Hills Asylum which closed in 1995. Leave Violet Town at 6pm and return at 11pm. BYO money for food/drinks. Please note walking shoes must be worn as there are over 150 steps on this tour. No disabled access.

Monday 5th April—Circus Workshops - 2pm - 4pm Learn some fun and exciting circus tricks.

Tuesday 6th April - Felt Making Workshop 1pm - 3pm Learn how to make felt scarves in this fun and tactile workshop. All materials supplied.

Wednesday 7th April—African Drumming Workshop 4pm - 6pm Learn tribal rhythms and beats in this fun workshop. BYO Drum if you have one.

Thursday 8th April 2pm—4pm and Friday 9th April 10am—12pm. Hip Hop Workshop with Nicky Ashby. 2pm - 4pm Suitable for all ages. Have you always wanted to learn to rap and dance those truly wicked hip hop moves? Well this is the workshop for you! There will be an opportunity for participants from the workshop to perform at the Art Exhibition Opening as part of the Torch Project.

Friday 9th April—Digital Storytelling. 10am—12pm. Bring along your images and you will learn how to tell your story using computer software and other techniques. Topics also included are storyboarding, scripting and sound.

Drop In Centre - 1—5pm Mondays, 10am—5pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am—1pm. Come along and hang out in the youth space. Play video games, pool and computers or just hang with your friends.

The Violet Town Community House will be running a bus trip to the comedy festival to see Ilbijerri Theatre performance of Black Sheep: Glorious Baastards on the 1st April. Bus leaving Violet Town at 3pm for a 6pm Start at the Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets $10 plus Bus Fare. The play directed by Rachael Maza Long and from the mob that brought you Bulupin Kwobinyarn (Australia's first Indigenous Prime Minister & cult political hero), The Black Sheep are back with a brand new night of breakneck sketch comedy - Blackfella style! Take a trip through Australia in a parallel-reality - where a host of colourful characters are chewing up stereotypes, spitting them out, and washing it all down with a big dose of black humour. Bold, hilarious and insatiably irreverent, these baastards will have you laughing your scalp off... no matter what colour it is! Bookings by the 28th March.
