The Violet Town Torch Project is an event which will be held from the 9th—11th April 2010. Featuring traditional crafts and arts demonstrations, workshops, music, theatre and performance.
The project aims to give the community exposure to traditional aspects of Australian Culture as well as giving participants an opportunity to share their stories, their observations, and their passions.
The week prior to the celebration will feature workshops in Hip Hop, Felting, Digital Storytelling, African Drumming, Basket Coiling and Poetry.
Thanks to the generosity of the Torch, Violet Town Op Shop and Split Rock costs have been kept to a minimum and concessions apply. There are many opportunities for you to be involved. We hope you can join us.
On Friday 9th April 2010 there will be an Indigenous Welcome and Smoking Ceremony and an Art Exhibition Opening in the Violet Town Memorial Hall Supper Provided. Features Hip Hop Performance poetry reading and live classical music. Art works featured from local and regional artists. Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture and Mosaics.
On Saturday 10th April 2010 a busy day is planned with the Market, Craft Demonstrations at the market in Spindle Spinning, Traditional Basket Coiling, Rock Carving and Storytelling. After the Market there will be workshops from 2pm at the Community Complex. The day concludes with a hilarious Theatre Performance. The art exhibition will be open all day and there will also b short films screened.
On Sunday 11th April 2010 the weekend will conclude with an acoustic music festival from 1pm – 6pm on the lawns of the community complex. Featuring original, folk, rock and easy listening acoustic music to suit all tastes. with ten acts that are sure to entertain. Bring along a blanket and a picnic for a relaxed and peaceful Sunday afternoon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
