Community Opportunity Workshop 2000

Below is an edited list of proposals from the Community Opportunity Workshop (COW) held on 13 November 2000 as part of The State Government's 'Community Capacity Building Project'. "As you can see Violet Town has achieved many things in the last five years, thanks not to any one group but to the many groups that make up our community".

ESTABLISH RURAL TRANSACTION CENTRE COMMUNITY BANK Credit union established, thanks to NECU now GMCU
Developing a major Recreational and Cultural Precinct Honeysuckle Recreation Environment Project (HREP)approximately $200,000 in grants received, walking track, tables and seating, sculptures, revegetation of parts of the creek, market site development - paths, shade sails to pool entry, music stage. Huge community effort involving more than 50 working bees and 1600 volunteer hours.
An integrated Violet Town town and district master planDeveloping a town PLAN. Work in progress by Shire?
Welcome Pack for new residentsBegan in 2001, still on going, welcome packs available from Delaheys IGA for new residents to Violet Town
Violet Town WRITERS GROUP Living History Project and MuseumHistory group formed as VTAG sub committee to research, school sites and building of swimming pool, Some Living History at Community House

PUBLIC ACCESS INTERNET - INFO TECHNOLOGY- COMPUTERSNow available at Library and Community House. Community House runs computer courses, Violet Town Web site up [www.violettown.org.au] and running.
Develop ways of supporting Local Industries and local businesses Streetlife project grant received Oct 2006 to employ person part time for 12 months
Formation of passenger train stop committeeTrain now stops three times a day heading north and south, thanks to the efforts of Kris Byrnes
Arts Council in Violet TownArts Violet Town Inc. rejuvenated in 2006.
