Construction of Violet Town swimming pool - 1957

We have been able to go back to the old Euroa Gazettes and get information on the the building of the swimming pool by the Shire and a huge volunteer effort. We now have quite a lot of information on the costs, contractors and the huge number of working bees.

We have some early photos from the Weekly Times of the pool when it was finished and in the early sixties, but does anyone have any photos of the pool in construction or the recreation reserve before the pool was built.

If anyone knows of any of these old photos are I would love to hear from you. I am happy to come and copy any documents you have at your house. we realise how precious these are and we dont want them lost.

We are still looking for the original Harris Cup and the Estates shield. The first Harris Cup was contested on Friday 14th Feb 1958. The cup was donated by George Harris. The cup was an unusual one, having been made from one block of redwood by Mr Harris' brother Theo, using a lathe some 20 years earlier. It was polished with a plate attached giving details of the competition and the winners.

The first Harris cup was won by the Farmers over the Leftovers, after a rerun as the first final was a draw.

Does anyone know who was in those teams or have any photos?

The 2nd Harris Cup was contested on Friday 13th March 1959 and was won by Juniors No 1 (J Fowler, H Williams, B Hayes, A Cater, N Hogan, L Peacock, C Little, J Ramage) defeated Farmers ( T Merrylees, T Crocker, J Dugdale, V Ramage, D Blair, A Howell, D Ramage, R Pennefather) Was this the same team who won in 1958?
