Where to from here for the History Group!
We would like to think that this is only the start of the work of the history group.
At a recent dinner / meeting there were some discussions of what we might do next. Some work has begun on the history of the pool as it celebrates its 50 years in early December 2007.
We are still looking for early photographs of the building of the pool. Perhaps you have some photographs of the early Harris Cup teams, the swimming club or other event or activity at the pool. If you have any or know who may have some please telephone Robin Landvogt on (03) 5798 1335. The committee will be careful with your treasured photographs, scan them and get them straight back to you, or we are happy to come to you.
Also it would be good to include a story about the swimming pool in the Honeysuckle Creek before the pool was built. Apparently a working bee would sandbag the creek to make the pool. If anyone has photographs or knows any details I would love to hear from you.
There is a great photograph, in the dining room at the Ellen Francis Hotel, of children swimming in the creek. Does anyone know the history of this photograph and where the original might be?
If anyone would like to become involved with this project please contact Robin Landvogt or Robbie Rae or any of the Friends of the Pool group.
We aim to produce a short history for launching at the 50th celebrations in December 2007.
A meeting will be called in August to start organizing the history, however the research has already begun.
