VTAG Ramblings - January 2011

VTAG and the sub committee members finished 2010 with a very enjoyable evening at the Ellen Frances Hotel, the meal was enjoyed by all.

The Christmas carols on the oval was rather cool with even some rain in the morning but the evening was an enjoyable occasion with the Lions Club cooking up a hearty feast. Numbers were down but considering the weather it was to be expected. The most successful carols are always when the event coincides with the school break-up night.

A big thank you to Alan Ericson and his team at the Strathbogie Shire for putting up the rest of 'the town of flowers' street signs and it is great to see it nearly completed with just one sign to go. These street signs have been many years in coming. We believe it was actually a project of the old Shire of Violet Town at the start. They have been worth the wait! Also for tidying up the road and information signs.

At present we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new seats for the community complex. They will replace the current pine fencing; hopefully this will take place in February. We hoped they would be in for the Australia Day breakfast but it has not happened!

We look forward to the new year as we have many projects to work on. We have funding to re-plant some of the street trees that have been removed or have died. We will be working with residents who are prepared to adopt a tree near their house. More details soon, obviously we need to plant in the winter or early spring, but maybe this year we could do it now.

All are welcome to our meetings, 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month. February meeting is 2 February 2011. Jo Beavis VTAG
