Welcome to Violet Town

Violet Town is a small community of 950 people [2006 ABS Census] nestled at the foot of the Strathbogie Ranges in North East Victoria and was the first inland Victorian town to be surveyed. Situated on the Hume Freeway 160km north east of Melbourne, the town is half way between Euroa and Benalla and 45 km from Shepparton and is part of the Strathbogie Shire.

Violet Town is a diverse rural community which features many groups, community organisations, sporting clubs and facilities as well as a great deal of community spirit. On the second Saturday of each month it also hosts the famous Violet Town Market. It's a community that gets things done!

The town is known Victoria wide for its popular community market on the second Saturday of every month. A monthly community newspaper – the Village Voice, keeps residents and visitors informed. There are arts and musical activities, sporting clubs, churches, a Community House, social groups and an Action Group – Violet Town Action Group. These plus a primary school - Violet Town Campus Peranbin Primary College, community health services including a resident doctor and the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre with 65 aged care beds all make for a vibrant community.

Violet Town is home to a number of small businesses including a supermarket, hairdresser, pharmacies, hardware store, service station, real estate agent, post office, café, hotel and a wonderful Op Shop. There are very good options for accommodation and meals are available all day and most nights of the week.
Unique town entry signs, designed by well-known local cartoonist and artist Michael Leunig, welcome visitors to the town.

Drop in for a coffee and a break from the freeway, stay a few days and enjoy the environment and the tourist attractions in the area. You might even be so charmed that you consider joining our very active community as a new resident.
