Market News - June Market
Our first winter market for 2010 had all the trappings of the glorious seasonal weather of which we boast here in the North-East of Victoria. Rain the night before, relatively mild at 6am due to the cloud cover, followed by a chilliness as the clouds receded, reminiscent of frosty mornings. True to form the sun came out and warmed what became, for a few hours, a crisp and clear winters day before settling into a pleasant, albeit grey, day.
The weather in this part of the country would have to be one of the main reasons the original market committee decided 32 years ago to hold the market 12 months of the year. To this day the market is held every month throughout the year and the weather continues to be kind.
As always, our market was full of seasonal produce, value added products, homemade bread, creative homemade gifts, jewellery, stationery, wooden toys, musical instruments, freshly cut flowers, both native and exotic, tools, books, old wares, vintage clothing, a vast array of plants, and a variety of other goods and services including hair cuts, tarot readings, chinese massage and accupuncture . Our coffee stalls were kept busy as were our food stalls. Our freshly squeezed fruit juice stall was also serving hot soup and our regular "winter woollies" stallholders have returned for the winter months.
The local fire brigade held a wood raffle. The wood raffles continue throughout the winter, run each month by a different local community group.
The jumping castle was in action for the younger and more energetic and the playground was alive with rosy cheeks and laughter.
We had lots of visitors to the market and a most enjoyable and successful day.
Stallholder News/Information
Thank you to all stallholders who attended the market. Winter markets can be unpredictable weather wise and travelling early in the morning and setting up in the cold is not the most loved of activities. We greatly appreciate your commitment to our market and are pleased it was such a well attended day.
Once again we would like to thank our regular stallholders who are working with us on the new quarterly payment plan. We encourage all our regular stallholders to comply with these new arrangements for ease of booking the market and ensured ongoing use of regular sites.
Our volunteers who collect site fees on the day commented on how much easier and less time consuming their job was on the day!
Next quarterly payment will be due at our July market covering the months of July, August and September.
We urge any stallholders who may have concerns or issues they would like to discuss with the committee to contact the market either by phone on 0416 233 584 or at info@market.violettown.org.au
Volunteers
Thank you, as always, to our small band of volunteers. Without your ongoing assistance it would be impossible to host such a successful market.
The early morning commitement for siting stallholders and the time consuming job of collecting site fees can be quite daunting and we consider our stallholders fortunate to be assisted by such a willing and pleasant group of volunteers.
Thank you also to our young helper who with the assistance of her parents "finds" and sweeps the site numbers the evening prior to the market and also places the signs on the freeway.
Of course we are always looking for volunteers so if you are interested please phone our market phone on 0416 233 584 or email info@market.violettown.org.au
We invite you to our next market on Saturday 10 July. Hope to see you there!
