HREP Report 20 November 2005

An HREP team constructed excellent park benches strategically positioned along the creek bank in early November.
"This will be our 51st working bee! We missed the 50th celebration so I think we should celebrate this one with a BBQ." said HREP Project Officer, Robyn Landvogt.
"Bring something, maybe a simple salad to share, for the BBQ that we will have down by the creek. It was beautiful down there last week."
Detailed planning and organisation by the HREP Working Party, Andrew Guerin, Robyn Landvogt, Tim Mahar, Howard Myers, Rebecca Nicoll, Sue Paton, Julie Ryan, Kate Stothers, Lance Williams and Susan Mahar has led to a community recreational area that any community would be proud to call their own.

Grasses native to the area are planted on the bank of Honeysuckle Creek.
Following the detail of a master plan, working bees have created the walking trail, rehabilitation of existing flora and the revegetation of degraded sections of the creek bank with plantings of native grasses and trees.
It is not too late to become involved: The Working Party is constantly in need of support from community groups and interested individuals. Check the Violet Town Village Voice for updates on the project or for details of future activities. For more information contact Robyn Landvogt, HREP Project Officer on 03 5798 1335.
HREP priorities established at the initial community meetings include: a walking / jogging track around the Creek area that also links the north part of town to the main street; rehabilitation and revegetation of the Creek; indigenous wildflower garden beds and picnic tables; historical and cultural interpretation trail; improved sporting facilities and amphitheatre or soundshell.

The Master Plan also details use of old red gum stumps for environmental sculpture, providing educational interpretation opportunities for the school and community.
