Holiday program - 8 January 2006

The School holidays have been off to a flying start with over 20 young people from Violet Town taking place in making a music, video and writing and recording a song. From the Youth Jam program the young people ranging in age from 11 - 17 had a great time writing the song and survived the challenges of recording. The song titled Random is a fun and quirky piece and the video reflects this energy.

The video will be screened at the next community film night on 24 January with some other short local films. The next youth jam will take place on 22 January.

Youth Drop In Centre: Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Youth Drop In Centre is open. This is a safe place to hang out on the Net, play pool and chat with friends, as well as making short films and playing games. Also on Wednesday from 10 - Pam Kids and Cars is continuing at the Skills Shed. All welcome to come along, join in and help out. Next steps include upholstery, body work and a visit to Winton Motor Raceway.

Freakin Out: This Friday we will be holding Freakin Out — How to Party Safe Learn about drugs and alcohol its effects and what to do in a emergency. A must for all teenagers. Free Sausage Sizzle VT Pool from 4—6pm presented with Hume Corridor Outreach Health Service and Goulburn Valley Community Health Service 13 January. Pool entry applies if you are intending to swim. After Freakin Out there will be a Pool Disco from 7.30 - 9.30pm. Bring along your own CD and have a great night swimming, laughing, dancing and singing along to your favourite tunes.

Op Shop Mural Project: On Monday 16 January we will be refreshing and revisiting the Op Shop Mural Project from four years ago. Everyone is welcome to help out and have input from 8.30 am as we transform the mural into something new. Also on 16 January we will be running a bus trip to Shepparton from 3.30 pm. Bowling, shopping and the movies. Cost $20 plus bring your own shopping money. Booking essential as seats are limited.

The Benchmark Project: Another way to get arty these holidays is with our Benchmark Project 16, 17 and 24 January. Come along and help design and decorate the benches located around the community for the start of this exciting place making project. All welcome and encouraged to join in. 12pm — 3 pm at the Community House.

Jewelry Making Workshop: On the 18 January from 4pm we will be holding a Jewelry Making Workshop with Helen Keighery. Make your own necklace, earrings and other great pieces of jewellery. Cost $25 which includes everything.

Possum Magic Walk: On the 19 January Kate Stothers and Lance Williams will be taking us on a guided Possum Magic Walk from the Skills Shed at dusk along the walking track through the HREP area.

Kate and Lance will point out all we need to know about the amazing creatures which live around the Honeysuckle We expect to see possums and bats but you never know what we might find.

Luna Park: On the 23 January we are heading to Melbourne and Luna Park. The cost for will be your train fare and your choice for rides. (usually $25) This trip will be fully supervised and is great fun. Bookings are essential.

Wackadoie Day: To coincide with Australia Day and to conclude the holiday program we will be holding a fun an quirky youth event called…...Wackadoie Day starting at 3pm on the 26 January.

There will be fun, colour and silliness at the skate park. Look out for posters closer to the day and if you want to help out you are most welcome. Activities include Bike Competition, Graffiti Art, Paint Ball, Fun Slide, Live Music and a film to finish the evening.

Motor Mechanics for Women: For the adults over the holidays we will be offering Motor Mechanics for Women where you will learn how to check your oil, water and tyres, change tyres, and have an understanding of how your car works.

You will get to look under your own bonnet and be able to ask all those questions you have not felt comfortable asking before. Four in a class which will be held over four Mondays in two hour sessions. Bookings essential and Bill Gordon is the facilitator.

Create your own stone wall: Do you want to learn how to create stone walls and features in your garden? In this day long workshop you will learn the art of laying both a dry and wet stone wall as well as the creation of other feature points, using local rock. Cost for workshop $35 which includes lunch.

Art Intensive workshops: Are you a professional or practicing artist? The Violet Town Community House, supported by Bloomin Arts is currently seeking expressions of interest for a four day art intensive. Workshops on offer include Printmaking, Life Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Digitising your Art Work and Painting. Master teachers will be taking the classes and it is expected that the workshops will cost approximately $20.00 per workshop. To express interest call 03 5798 1288.

Building Nesting Boxes: In this two hour workshop you will be given all the materials and instruction you need to build nesting boxes for your garden. Cost $10 and bookings are essential. Upotipotpon Book Club 2006.

Violet Town Book Club:It is now time to register for this exciting and fun book club. We will be changing times to the fourth Monday of the month at 7.30 pm in the evening. Meeting in member's homes and other places of interest, the book club is not only a great way to read books but also to socialize with a great group of people. Next meeting will be at 4 High St Violet Town on 23 January.
