Farmers' market funding program

As part of the 2006 State Election, the Government has committed $2 million over 4 years towards the Farmers Markets Program.

The objective of the initiative is to "help develop Farmers’ Markets across the State that can grow and operate as economically sustainable events to bring clean, green, local produce direct from farmer to consumer."

Funding is available to 48 rural and regional councils and nine interface councils, and also to not-for-profit incorporated organisations for Farmers’ Markets located within those Councils.

Grants of up to $10,000 will be provided on a $2 for $1 basis to applicants wishing to undertake a market plan for a new or existing Farmers’ Market. Grants of up to $20,000 will be provided on a $2 for $1 basis to applicants wishing to start up a new Farmers’ Market or expand an existing Farmers’ Market.

The program commenced on 1 July 2007 and will continue until 30 June 2011. Applications will be assessed as they are received.

The Guidelines are available from the Regional Development Victoria website.
