Thank you for the many responses to our request for details of activities and events for bushfire and drought relief. This ebulletin highlights just a few of the drought and bushfire initiatives throughout the state. Please visit the websites or call the numbers provided as we have listed only a snippet of the extensive range of supports, events, projects and resources offered by departments and agencies.

We hope that the information in this bulletin is useful to you or someone you know. Please pass it on to anyone you think might be interested. Some of the items relate to very local activities or specific sector supports. If the items don't directly relate to your community or your own particular circumstances hopefully they have given you ideas about where to gain information. Local Governments and your DVC local teams may also have specific information relevant to your area and circumstances. We received notice about two items from Gippsland that have already occurred but deserve a mention as they may provide food for thought for others.

The first was the "Yarragon Village - Reaching Out" event, with participating traders donating 10% of their turnover for the 20th and 21st January to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund, which donates 100% of its funds directly to those affected by floods, bushfires and other natural disasters.

The second was a fundraiser organised by the Bairnsdale Old Time Dance Club in the Lucknow Hall. With the generosity of the Hall Committee, organist Ian Shields and local traders donating venue, skills and prizes, and dancers travelling from other parts of Gippsland, over $2,000 was raised for the East Gippsland Fire Appeal.

Such gestures not only raise much needed funds they also demonstrate the wonderful community spirit that can shine through in times of stress. Please continue to advise us of such events and actions for inclusion in our regular ebulletins. The deadline for our March ebulletin is 26 February 2007.

A reminder too that articles or notices for inclusion in the March Network Newsletter (Our 20th Anniversary edition) are due by 7 February 2007.
