Strathbogie Shire Council finalises projects for the $300K Local Infrastructure Works Program
Strathbogie Shire Council has finalised the list of projects it will deliver under the State Government's Local Infrastructure Works Program.
In November, 2006 the state government announced funding of $11 million - under its Local Infrastructure Works Program - that would assist local councils that have been declared under "Exceptional Circumstances" with funding for a range of minor infrastructure works. Projects would be funded up to 100%, to a maximum of $300,000 per participating council.
As part of the project Strathbogie Shire Council was asked to nominate their most important minor local infrastructure projects.
Mayor of Strathbogie Shire Council, Gregory Carlson, said, "Council extensively reviewed Community Action Plans/Disability Action Plans and letters and requests from the community to prioritise projects for its submission. All of Council's departments were involved in the development of the list of projects to ensure a fair representation across the whole of the shire. This funding will help to improve and rebuild infrastructure in our communities and contribute to their economic development during the worst drought on record."
CEO of Strathbogie Shire Council, Kevin Hannagan said, "The projects will improve the amenity of many of our towns and also help to maintain community confidence and pride. In order to support local tradespeople and contractors experiencing a downturn as a result of the drought, priority will be given to projects that are labour intensive and that utilise local labour. Council is grateful to the state government and the Local Infrastructure Works Program which will allow us to fund minor projects that previously weren't able to be funded."
Some of the projects that will be funded are:
- Hall/Club and Community Complex upgrades including works at Avenel Memorial Hall, Creightons Creek Hall, Euroa Band Hall, Nagambie Bowls Club, Strathbogie Hall, Miepoll Hall, Euroa Croquet Club, and the Violet Town Community Complex.
- Walking trail upgrades to encourage pedestrians & bikes riders to use the trails, Euroa, Nagambie, Longwood .
