School Sites History group update

1949 view of Cowslip St.
Another meeting was held on the 16 January. Some great material and photos have been collected and the first draft of the history of the Upotipotpon South school is together. It gave us an idea of what it may look like at the end. (Thanks to the computer skills of Darryl Parker).
The wording for the plaques has been finalized. Barb Ramage is doing sketches of the schools to go onto the plaques; final drafts will then be sent to the company to be produced.
An interesting find this month was the roll and inspectors report in 1914 for the Koonda School. Also found was a photo of the Earlston School procession down the main street in Caniambo at the end of the first world war. Lots more photos and memorabilia too.
A visit to the public records office in North Melbourne is planned for early March to try to finalize the lists of teachers at each school.
We still have not been able to locate the Honour board from the Upotipotpon South School. Does anyone have any ideas where it may have gone?
Our next meeting is 10am Monday 2 March at the meeting room in the Community Complex.
All are welcome, or if you have some information please contact Robin Landvogt, Val Russell or Barb Ramage.
A provisional date has been set for the opening of the plaques as Sunday 22 April 2007, but this may be moved to May depending mainly on the rain.
