Australian of the Year Awards 2008

The Australian of the Year awards are now open for nominations and Strathbogie Shire Council want to remind residents to get their thinking caps on as applications close on Friday August 31st 2007.
These awards are held on a national basis and are not to be confused with the Shire Australia Day Awards.
The National Australia Day Council is calling for nominations in the Australian of the Year Awards 2008 in the following categories:
- Australian of the Year
- Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over)
- Young Australian of the Year (16 to 25 years)
- Australia’s Local Hero.
You are invited to nominate a friend, a family member, community leader, colleague or even someone famous. Who is an Australian that you think makes our country a better place to live?
Australian of the Year is open to all Australians who deserve recognition for their extraordinary achievements, contributions to the community and nation and who are exemplary ambassadors for Australia.
Senior Australian of the Year recognises those Australians aged 60 years and over who continue to achieve and contribute to the community. Young Australian of the Year recognises those extraordinary young Australians aged 16-25 years who are contributing to our community. Australia's Local Hero recognises Australians who make a real difference in their local communities and whose outstanding contributions enrich the lives of those around them.
Anyone can be Australian of the Year but somebody has to nominate them - why not you?
Nominees must be an Australian citizen and recipients will be selected based on nominations from the public in each State or Territory. State/Territory recipients will then proceed to the national level of selection where they are judged by the board of the Australia Day Council.

Nominations, closing Friday 31 August 2007, need to be lodged direct with the National Australia Day Council (ie. not via Council or your local Australia Day Committee).
