Violet Town Pool was the place to be on Friday nights for the past 7 weeks as Friday Night Games were introduced.

From 6-8pm approximately 75 people each week (some weeks it was as high as 100) braved the conditions to fiercely compete in a range of pool activities. Participants came from Euroa, Strathbogie, Miepoll and Violet Town.

Each week there was a different theme: Italian Night, Pirate night, Hillbilly and shearers night, Violet Town Olympics, Going Troppo - Tropical night, On Safari and Old Fashioned Picnic races.

Robbie Rae, Event organizer said, "The Violet Town Pool Committee would like to thank Strathbogie Shire Council for $1,500 that went towards the Friday night games. The remainder of the funding will go towards the 50 years of the Violet Town Pool celebrations that we will be holding in December. We would also like to thank the CWA for the generous funding of $500. Feedback has been wonderful with people asking - why can't we have more? When will you start next year? Can we run some in winter?"

Sponsors of the event included: Violet Town Thrifty Link Hardware Pat Glynn and Margaret - Gas refills and discounts on products. Violet Town IGA Mal and Trish Delahey bread, apples for apple bob, other products for games.

Also a huge thank you to our referees Pat Glynn and Kathleen Gibbs.

Robbie Rae said, "We started in November working on themes and brainstorming games. We wanted to include all age levels and all of the community. Our aim was to make the first one "wow" so everyone would come back and the word would get around that Friday night the place to be was the Violet Town Pool. We've had a fabulous time and can't wait for next season. The feedback has been really positive. Sausage sizzle was provided by the Friends of the Pool each week with snags and bread that we sold for $1.

Thank you to the Committee: Robin Harrison, Robbie Rae, Bronwyn Manning, Krissie Anderson, David Harrison and David Staff.

The Committee pulled together and was a wonderful example of how community cohesion works with no delegation needed.

Thanks to everyone who participated and watch this space for December 2007.

Also a huge thank you to our group of older supporters that came to cheer everyone on and didn't necessarily have any family participating just loved the community spirit and wanted to support it. [13 March, 2007]
