The operating statement forecasts an unfavourable variance at 30 June 2007 of $1,583,986. The variance is primarily related to both the timing of operating expenditure, with some programs impacting two financial years, and lower than anticipated receipt of grant funding for capital works. The welcome rains will unfortunately precipitate the death of thousands of sheep and cattle according to Bill Sykes, Nationals Member for Benalla and farmer/veterinarian.
Dr Sykes said stock must be given roughage immediately to avoid deaths from hypothermia (chilling), milk fever, grass tetany and nitrate poisoning. more ...
National Youth Week a huge success
National Youth Week is said to be the largest celebration of young people in Australia. In 2007, National Youth Week took place from the 14th to the 22nd April.
Strathbogie Shire's contribution to this huge celebration culminated in 'Celebrate Youth' Week. In addition to providing fun and entertainment, the activities held during 'Celebrate Youth' Week aimed to showcase the many talents of young people and enhance their self-esteem, as well as promoting a positive image of young people and encouraging community participation. more ...

youthcentral is the Victorian Government's website for young people. youthcentral is currently seeking young Victorians aged between 16 and 24 years to join their Roving Reporter team.
Roving Reporters are freelance journalists who write articles, reviews and interviews that are of interest to young people. These contributions are then published on the youthcentral website. more ...

Strathbogie Shire Council has joined Scope and the Aussie Recycling Program (ARP) to help control the dumping of millions of unwanted mobile telephones from leaking highly toxic chemicals into landfill.
Scope will receive a donation of $4 for every unwanted mobile telephone collected, whether a phone is working or not. more ...

School was in again
School was in again for over 200 excited former teachers, pupils and family members and friends of the former Tamleugh, Earlston, Koonda and Upotipotpon South schools, in Violet Town on Sunday 27 May 2007.
A huge convoy of cars toured the area to unveil 6 plaques at the sites of these schools of yesteryear and then came back to Violet Town for a shared lunch and to launch the book District Schools: Earlston, Koonda, Tamleugh and Upotipotpon South. more ...
