Carers Week 14 – 20 October 2007

Delatite Community Health Service is running two special programs for carers in November

Carers Week is a national awareness week held during October each year in Australia. The event was established to promote and raise awareness of the valuable role that family carers play in our community and to generate discussion about carer issues. Carers Week also provides an opportunity for carers to come together, support one another and share ideas and information.

The national theme for Carers Week 2007 is Anyone, Anytime.

To support and celebrate Carers in our community, two special programs will be presented at Delatite Community Health Service in the coming weeks.

The first is a workshop for carers, being held on Monday 19 November, at Benalla Community Care, 45 Coster St. This workshop will be facilitated by an experienced educator from Carers Victoria covering some aspects of the caring experience:

Caring For Yourself

Most carers place their own needs low down on their list of priorities. This workshop aims to assist carers in understanding and resolving the mental or emotional barriers that prevent them from acknowledging their own needs. It also provides carers with tools to take action for their own wellbeing.

Humour and Caring

The Humour and Caring workshop has been developed to promote awareness, exploration and discussion of the role of humour in everyday life and its particular benefit to carers in stressful situations.

A delicious buffet lunch will be provided between the workshops, which are being offered free to all carers.
