Battle 2007 Judges:

On Friday the 24th of August, the Euroa 'Push Battle of the Bands Heat' was hosted by the Defrosters FReeZA Committee. Two bands from the Strathbogie Shire performed, alongside three bands from neighboring shires. What a night it was! Bands were allowed a 20 minute set and were judged on every aspect of their performance including presentation, musicianship, composition and recording potential.

Beginning the night were a young Benalla rock/altenative band, Last Ryde who formed about 12 months ago, and have recently performed at the Benalla Battle of the bands.

Next up on stage were another young band, Uprising, from Mansfield. This energetic little group of four was a hit with the crowd, and have had several gigs in their local area including airplay on the local radio station.

Third was our very own young Violet Town act, Risk of Electric Shock, who have been together since 2006 and played their first pubic performance on Friday evening, having recorded at Kool Schools in Melbourne last week. The band, consisting of Kim Howe, Billy Pesavento, Tom Beadle, Will Mackrell and Pat James looked great for the judges in their leather jackets. They performed several original songs and were thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd.

Fourth were another Mansfield band, Born in Silence. This band, a hard rock act hailing from various areas of North East Rural Victoria delivered a strong musical performance, having gained experience through regular gigs in their local area.

Finally, finishing off a successful evening, our very own rock/Indi style band from Violet town featuring local talents Sean Mackrell, Indi Walton-Guerin, James Ashworth and Clayton Sessions. Beas Window had recently recorded for the second time at Kool Schools in Melbourne, as well as performed at several other Battle of the Bands Heats in recent times.

After five fantastic performances and plenty of dancing in between, the judges revealed their decision. Taking out the winning prize, a $100 voucher from Highway Music in Shepparton, as well as the opportunity to play at the regional finals, was Born In Silence, who were closely followed by their Mansfield counterparts, Uprising in second place!

This year's band battle attracted around 170 local youth, including busses from Nagambie and Violet Town.

Charlene Ham, Strathbogie Shire Council's, FReeZA Worker said, "The Battle was once again a huge success. It was wonderful to see interest from across the shire and of course to have the opportunity to showcase the fantastic talent of our young people here in the Shire of Strathbogie."

Congratulations to all the bands that entered and delivered wonderful performances in the Battle of the Bands. Thank you to all who were involved in the planning and running of this event, including Lewis Security, the Euroa SES, the Euroa Agricultural Society, and Volunteers from Euroa and Violet Town, your support and generosity is invaluable.
