Felipe Rodriguez, CEO / DON Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre and Sophie Mirabella MHR – Federal Member for Indi announce Federal Government funding to establish a medical practice in the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre.
The news that an amount of $333,645 has been made available was enthusiastically received by a group of Violet Town residents gathered at the Centre.
The need for a medical practice in town has been in people's minds for some time and an overwhelming community response at a public meeting provided the support necessary to proceed with the application for funding.

Felipe Rodriguez, actively preparing for the submission since April 2007, recognised the support of the community and the Federal Member for Indi particularly in the last parliamentary sessions in Canberra.
In announcing the 'dollar for dollar' funding, Ms Mirabella spoke of the changed circumstances where communities need to provide the medical practice for doctors. "This project is what has been the missing hole in GP services, not just for Violet Town but lots of other little communities." she said
"So we have to accept reality and that's what you have done here at Violet Town. 'We need a GP, what do we do?', 'We'll set up a clinic, we'll fit it out and that will make it much easier to attract GPs'" Ms Mirabella continued.

"I hope that other communities see they can help themselves, they can access Federal Government funding and adapt to a changing work environment and provide the desperately needed on-the-ground GP services."
