Detox Your Home- 1 November 2008
Old cleaners, left over paint, dead batteries and weed killer stored around your home can now be safely disposed of without putting a strain on the environment.
Sustainability Victoria is a Victorian Government Agency that provides the Detox Your Home free service, in partnership with Strathbogie Shire Council - to collect potentially dangerous and unwanted household chemical products. Sustainability Victoria's Chief Executive Officer, Anita Roper, said the free service can help householders minimise the danger of accidents and reduce the risk to the environment.
"There is no doubt that leaving unwanted household chemicals around the home, garage and garden shed increases the risk of accidents.
That is why we encourage people to take these materials to the collection sites"."If products like paint and solvents end up in landfill or in our waterways they can cause significant environmental problems," Mrs Roper said.
The collected materials will be treated and recycled, or disposed of safely by a specialist team.
Residents can deposit their unwanted household chemicals on:
Date: Saturday 1 November
Time: 1.00pm – 4.00pm
Location: Strathbogie Shire Council, Transfer Station
Tip, Euroa. VicRoads: 47 A6
