Women Gathering in Dry Times

Women in the shires of Strathbogie and Moira and the Greater Shepparton City Council area are invited to attend a one-day Women Gathering in Dry Times workshop that may make them eligible to receive a grant of $500 to run their own 6 week Women Gathering program.
An initiative of Women's Health Goulburn North East and supported by Goulburn Valley Primary Care Partnership, the Department of Planning and Community Development, Shires of Moira, Strathbogie and Shepparton. Women Gathering in Dry Times is open to individual women and agency representatives to help them tackle women's isolation and stress in rural areas in a variety of creative activities that reflect their community needs.
Twenty $500 grants are available to get the Women Gathering projects underway.
"The drought has impacted severely on women who are often the carers of our families, as well as being the workers and volunteers of our communities," said Coordinator, Julie Tyler. "It is therefore more important than ever those women remain connected to their community and nurture their friendships and relationships."
Women Gathering in Dry Times workshops will provide local women with the skills, networks, inspiration and support to get them running their own six to 10 week Women Gathering programs in their own community. Remaining connected to community provides an important safeguard for ensuring good mental health and supporting a sense of well-being.
"These programs are often life changing for women who may have been isolated either emotionally or geographically or both for many years", said Ms Tyler.
The Women Gathering in Dry Times workshop is on the Tuesday 16 September in Euroa, and on Wednesday 17 September in Numurkah from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm. Lunch is included and travel and childcare assistance are available. Bookings are essential.
