Opening the bridge over the Honeysuckle Creek
On a beautiful Violet Town afternoon, the new bridge over the Honeysuckle Creek was officially 'opened' with Lance Williams starting the proceedings.
"G'day everyone and thank you all for coming.
I'd like to welcome Councillors from the Shire of Strathbogie, Shire officers, our representative from Regional Development Victoria, and the good residents of Violet Town and surrounds.
It's great to have you all here this afternoon to celebrate this significant milestone in the restoration and beautification of our Honeysuckle Creek environment. The Honeysuckle Recreational Environment Project (HREP) has been, continues to be, an outstanding achievement for all of those involved and something our community can be justly proud of.

Today, we officially cut the ribbon on our new footbridge, and unveil our new track overview sign. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved, all of the generous volunteer time and labour contributed by so many, the support and assistance of the Shire of Strathbogie and its officers, the Violet Town Action Group, and, of course, on the occasion of the opening of this new footbridge, the Helen McPherson Trust for the generous grant that largely enabled us to build our new bridge.
I haven't wished to name names (once you start that there's always the very real danger that you will inadvertently leave someone out), but I will take this opportunity on the occasion of her departure from the HREP committee - and the country for that matter - to thank Robin Landvogt for her long and deep involvement with this project. Of behalf of the HREP committee and everyone involved in this project, thank you Robin.
Now I'd like to call on Deputy Mayor Robyn Machin to say a few words and then to unveil our new track overview sign." - Lance Williams, Chair of the Honeysuckle Recreational Environment Project committee.
Deputy Mayor Robyn Machin acknowledged the value of work done by the community and thanked the Helen McPherson Trust and the Strathbogie Shire for the financial support essential to the construction of bridge.

Robyn also acknowledged the design work by Engineer Geoff King and the negotiations with all to the final colour and other design features.
Following the cutting of the ribbon, Doris Mullavey with assistance from three charming girls unveiled the new track overview sign, one of which is placed in the Cowslip Street Lions Park.
All guests were then treated to an excellent array of food and drinks to celebrate the opening of the new bridge. The Honeysuckle Park with walking track, sculptures, benches and table and now new bridge is a great achievement by all those involved in the Honeysuckle Recreational Environment Project and just another example of the Violet Town community that getting things done!
