Strathbogie Shire's economic activity quietly on the rise

Strathbogie shire continues to experience significant growth with building approval values tipping $3,064,569 for the month of April. This is a significant increase from the $773,491corresponding figure from this time last year.

Mayor, Gregory Carlson, said, "These figures indicate continuing growth, as measured by building activity in the shire. While there are many in the community who may feel that economic activity is slowing, data indicates that there is consistent growth in the municipality. Some feel that there are certain areas that are progressing faster than others. This uneven portrayal in the numbers has been a concern to some of the community but Council is confident broad based investment will generate activity in due course. Council is committed to progressing development and to working with the community."

Some of the investment approvals for this month include a number of new dwellings, a commercial farm for intensive rural industry and infrastructure improvement to existing properties.

"Stimulating growth outside metropolitan Melbourne has been a key objective not only for Strathbogie Shire for some years now but also for the Victorian Government. Key regional industries such as agriculture, food, wine and tourism, and the plethora of equine breeding facilities, continue to be attracted to our municipality," Mayor Carlson said.

Continual growth of the region is expected with more people being attracted to the "tree change" lifestyle. The population of Strathbogie shire grew by 1.2% one of the biggest rises in rural Victoria.
