Federal Liberal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella, has called upon local residents and organisations to apply for the 2008 round of the Community Heritage Grants program.

"The Community Grants Program (CHG) aims to preserve and provide access to locally held, national significant cultural heritage collections across the country," Mrs Mirabella said.

"This is a program specifically designed to benefit local community groups and I urge all local groups of this nature to apply for these grants"

The program provides grant funding of up to $15, 000 for preservation projects and preservation and collection management training through community based workshops.

"Community organisations such as historical societies, museums, public libraries, archives, Indigenous and migrant community groups which collect and provide public access to their cultural heritage collections are eligible to apply," Mrs Mirabella concluded

Applications are now open for the 2008 round and locals groups who wish to apply for these grants are urged to call Sophie’s Electorate Office on 1300 131 791.

Applications close on 30 June 2008
