National Families Week 2008

Federal Liberal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella, is inviting local families to become involved in the 6th National Families Week Celebrations to be held between the 11th and 17th of May which will coincide with the United Nations International day of Families on May 15 and Mothers Day on May 11.

National Families week is Australia’s main annual celebration of the importance of families and with last years participation levels reaching a remarkable 110,000 people, Mrs Mirabella is urging local families to again support the program and what it aims to do for families.

"The central aim of National Families week 2008 is to encourage all Australians to do practical things to more effectively balance work and family responsibilities, which is highlighted in the slogan “Work and Family – Getting the balance right," Mrs Mirabella said

"National Families week is a great initiative that officially acknowledges the importance of families as the most fundamental unit of our society. It encourages all Australians to recognise that effectively balancing work and family makes for stronger families, workplaces and communities. Mrs Mirabella said

"I encourage all families in Indi to take time to celebrate the vital role families play in our lives and community and to do things that will improve the all-round physical and emotional wellbeing of their families." Mrs Mirabella concluded
