For the second year in a row the Violet Town Lions Club staged another very successful Quick Shear competition. Quick Shear 2007

Businesses and groups again rallied to the event providing much needed funding and support. Major sponsors included: Violet Town Football and Netball Club; Heiniger Australia; Kemp Shearing; Rankin Transport; Hume Electrical; Bea Anderson and proudly supported by many other local businesses.

The Violet Town Lions Club installed their BBQ equipment and were supplying tasty burgers for the first to arrive and to those who watched the shearing competition.

The Violet Town Lions Club said ".. we would like to thank all our sponsors and encourage you to support them in some way wherever possible. We would also like to thank the judges, the commentators and all those that have worked so hard behind the scenes. Without you this event would not have been possible. All the profits from this event will be returned to the community as part of our ongoing 'Drought Relief for the Bush' program."

Judges this year were Murray Mosser from Euroa; Stewart Neal from Omeo and Tom Kelly. Chief Steward was Stan Aldridge.

The evening opened with demonstration shearing by older shearers and followed on with the open heats that brought shearers from as far apart as New Zealand, Condoblin and West Australia.

Additionally the Quick Shear event included and auction where most of the items were auctioned under the 'helmsman' system. Everyone was invited to provide their bid for an item with the leading bid recorded for all to see with the final bid being announced during the night.

Items included memorabilia, hardware, shearing equipment, vouchers, even dog food and much more besides.
