Euroa and the surrounding Strathbogie Ranges will be showcased during the Euroa Shines Festival early next month, Member for Northern Victoria Kaye Darveniza said today.

Ms Darveniza was in Euroa to announce a $10,000 Brumby Government grant to support the festival, which builds on the town's annual Show and Shine event.

"Since 2001 car enthusiasts have been flocking to Euroa for this event and this year organisers will expand on its success to encourage visitors to stay longer and find out more about the many many attractions Euroa and surrounds have to offer," she said.

Ms Darveniza said local traders, businesses and community groups had already thrown their support behind the expanded festival format.

"Shops will extend their trading hours, a number of wineries will open their doors to the public, there'll be a market, art exhibitions and the community-run museum will open all weekend, too," she said.

Ms Darveniza said there were flow-on effects of attracting more visitors the region including encouraging new tourism operations and creating jobs.

"This festival will not only provide a short-term boost to participating businesses and operations, it will showcase Strathbogie Shire and encourage car-loving tourists to return again and again to explore the region."

Mayor of Strathbogie Shire Council Gregory Carlson said, "The event has become an important item on the car enthusiasts' calendar. There is now fierce competition between entrants vying for the trophies in each category.

Thousands of people now flock to the area which is a fantastic thing for our region. The town has now capitalised on this and put together a wonderful program of event to showcase our shire - and more importantly it's something that the whole family can enjoy."
