Unsightly Land

StrathbogieSC150 (6K)

Strathbogie Shire Council would like to advise that Compliance Officers will shortly begin inspections targeting properties being kept in a dangerous or unsightly manner in accordance with its local law.

Compliance Officers will investigate the complaint by firstly conducting a site inspection. Then Officers will educate the landholder / tenant on the requirements of the local law.

This will involve giving a clear direction on what is required in the form of a notice to comply and be given a timeframe to achieve this. If a request for cleanup is not complied with, Council will issue an infringement notice.

Acting CEO, Steve Crawcour said, "Compliance staff, where possible will try and manage the problem before enforcement. Often people are unaware that some of the goods they have may be of value in scrap therefore may be possible for scrap dealers to pick up free of charge. The aim of this exercise is to educate prior to enforcement."

If the tenant / landowner fail to comply, a notice of intention to clear property and impound goods will be given to them. Contractors would then be engaged to cleanup and remove / relocate goods to the Council impound yard and the owner of the goods will then be sent an account for the costs of cleanup and storage of goods.
