On 20 February Violet Town yet again hosted Friday Night Family Games but added to this the Honeysuckle Shield and Harris Cup relay races.

It was pleasing to see the whole Shire being represented with people coming from as far afield as Strathogie, Euroa, Meipol and Nagambie to form teams to try and win the Cup from the Violet Town teams.

After the games for the toddlers and younger children were over the heats of the Honeysuckle Shield were held. There were four in each team with at least two females swimming. The Bogarians, from Strathbogie of course, went up against the Swimming Guns, the Shot Guns and the Stars, mixed teams of locals and visitors.

Three teams made it through to the finals, the Swimming Guns, the Shot Guns and the Bogarians. The Shield was ultimately won by the Swimming Guns in a tight final with the Shot Guns only five seconds behind.

By this time the teams entered in the Harris Cup were warming up. These teams of six had to have two females competing. Fierce rivalry was festering before they even hit the water.

The four teams, ACM (a mixed team of young, fit pool lifeguards working at the Shire pools who came along with their own version of Laurie Lawrence), the Young Guns (local teenagers), the Bogie Blues (our Strathbogie visitors) and the current holders the Harrisons (a local family with enough members to make a team and all sleep deprived from the pitter patter of two sets of tiny, new feet) steamed down the pool in an effort to gain a spot in the finals.

A very thrilling final was set up with ACM, the Young Guns and the Harrisons all earning a place. It was neck and neck each leg but the young, fit band of pool lifeguards, ACM, one in a fingertip thrilling finish beating the tired, weary, Harrisons, with two grandparents in their team, by six seconds.

The Violet Town Lions again cooked a delicious gourmet BBQ which was enjoyed by all the spectators and especially the competitors after the competition.
