This free event will be held on Saturday 14 February commencing at 5:30pm on the Violet Town Recreation Reserve in Tulip St. Bring along a blanket or chairs and a picnic tea, but no glass allowed.

It may be a little known fact that 14,000 people are homeless on Melbourne streets every night according to the Lord Mayor's Fund.

The Choir of Hard Knocks was formed in 2006 when 50 people who live marginalized from society and experiencing extreme financial hardship and many with a disability responded to a call to form a community based choir.

Jonathon Welch was inspired by an old article he found describing a Choir for homeless people in Montreal and set about founding the project he now directs through Reclink Australia.

Many of you will have followed the touching story of Choir's journey on the ABC and you can read more about their stories online at www.abc.net.au/hardknocks. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to see the Choir perform live in Violet Town. There are accessible toilets at the recreation reserve.

Saturday 14 February is also Violet Town market day. Why not make a day of it by visiting the market with all its temptations, then in the afternoon find out what the region has to offer by visiting one or more of the interesting gardens, a winery, a lavendar or alpaca farm, mountain tops and much more.

Be sure to return to Violet Town by 5:30pm though, to secure a suitable place from which to see and hear the Choir of Hard Knocks concert.
