A course has been developed by the Australian Sports Commission, targeted towards those who have been nominated by their sporting organisation (or self-nominated with a letter of support from their organisation) to be trained as an Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) under the organisation’s Member Protection Policy.

The two-day course provides members of sporting organisations with an opportunity to increase their understanding of harassment, discrimination and abuse in sport and to learn practical skills to take on an MPIO role.

The MPIO is the first point of call in sporting organisation for any queries, complaints or concerns around harassment and abuse in sport. The MPIO provides confidential information and moral support to the person alleging harassment. Over 90% of complaints are effectively resolved at this level.

The course will enable the participant to appropriately handle enquiries, concerns and complaints about harassment in sport.

Registration for the course close on 26 January 2009.
