Saturday 11 July 2009 was a very happy day for the community of Violet Town, when the Community Op-Shop re-opened at the rear of the Post Office building.

The new venue was officially opened by the Mayor of Strathbogie Shire, Councillor Howard Myers. The honour of cutting the ribbon was given to the Op Shop's longest-serving volunteer, Lorna Palmer, who performed that duty jubilantly.

As previously, proceeds from the establishment will assist the community in the same tradition as that handed down by the Op Shop's original instigator, the late Norm Campbell.

Through his efforts, together with the generosity of Jane Murphy, who allowed the use of her building for many years, the Op Shop has donated many thousands of dollars to the community.

The re-opening would not have been possible without a great deal of behind-the-scenes activity by all the volunteers who work so hard, and the donations and encouragement received from the community.

The Treasure room with its knick-knacks and jewellery was a hive of activity on Saturday, and as fast as donations were coming in they were walking out the door with happy customers.

A book room has been added, which has videos, DVDs and children's toys as well as books. Also new are an adult's clothes room and a room with children's clothes, craft and linen.

Opening hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Constant replenishing of stock is necessary so all suitable donations will be gratefully accepted.

If there are any donations that require a vehicle and trailer, please ring 03 5790 8501 or 03 5798 1887 and arrangements can be made for collection. [Courtesy Euroa Gazette 14 July 2009]
