Thank you to Councillor Robin Steers
Our community owes a great deal of gratitude to Robin Steers for his outstanding work and contribution to the Strathbogie Shire Council for almost 10 year, including two terms as Mayor in 2003 and 2004, Chairman of the Planning Committee and the Saleyard Committee.
Robin has retired as a councillor of the Strathbogie Shire after serving our community with great distinction. He was first elected in 2000 to the five member council and was returned unopposed in three subsequent elections to the seven member council representing the Hughes Creek Ward. He has been a great advocate for the whole shire and enjoyed strong support from all residents.
He played vital roles as the portfolio representative for a number of industries including the local Equine and Wine industries and was a strong member of the Land Management Committee. He was integral in progressing the Nagambie Bypass, redeveloping the Chinaman's Bridge Caravan Park and the Strathbogie Agribusiness Park.
He guided council through the contentious State Government proposals of the Toxic Waste Dump at Violet Town in 2003 and the Mt Teneriffe Correction Centre at Longwood in 2004. Clearly he is a man who lobbied strongly and was well respected through all levels of government.
Robin has been driven by his love of this district and the potential for well planned growth through broad consultation and wise decision making. He is a great loss to our Shire Council and his successor will have big shoes to fill. I am delighted Robin has recovered well and is able to return to his beloved farm at Avenel and family, including two young granddaughters.
