Yearling Sales Oakland Junction

Earlier this month Strathbogie Shire Councillors were fortunate enough to visit the yearling sales at the Oaklands Junction Sales complex.
Garry Dillon from North East Thoroughbreds said, "It is rare for many outside the Thoroughbred Industry to see the inner workings on a major sales day. The breeders appreciated Councillors taking this opportunity to see another side to our industry. To have them see first hand the end product and result of what has been in some cases many years hard work was important to us and we hope it showcased just how well we are doing in this industry with Council's help."
The sale has been down on last years figures, as the industry expected. Over the first two days the sales average has dipped 32%, with an average sale price of $56,569 (down from $83,211 in 2008). This of course is reflective of the economic climate and a downturn we expected but hoped would not occur. There has still been over $13,500,000 out through the sales ring with two days still to run.
Councillors visited the sites of Swettenham, Blue Gum, Phoenix, Wood Lawn and Fulmen Park.
