To celebrate the end of vintage for 2009, Nagambie Lakes and Strathbogie winemakers joined enthusiastic punters who turned out in droves to enjoy the festivities at Tahbilk winery on Sunday 3 May.
Given the tumultuous beginning to 2009, it seems that locals were ready to celebrate and Tahbilk hosted a fun filled day, blessed by the stunning autumn weather. Wineries, restaurants and producers from the Nagambie Lakes and Strathbogie regions came together for a day of exquisite wines, exceptional food plus a range of kid's activities and great entertainment.
Wineries participating on the day included Tahbilk; Dalfarras; Mitchelton; Goulburn Terrace; Tar&Roses; Plunkett-Fowles; Brave Goose Vineyard; Maygars Hill; Baptista; Longleat and Baddaginnie Run, who all came complete with delicious tastings and a plethora of tales of the 2009 vintage.
All wineries braved the challenge for the title of Best Regional Shiraz, and despite many worthy contestants, Tahbilk 2003 Eric Stevens Purbrick Shiraz (we promise it wasn't rigged!) took out the much-coveted prize. Second place was awarded to Tar & Roses 2006 Trust Shiraz, but only by a whisker, and Baptista 2006 Three Centuries Shiraz finished well in third.
There were some great competitions held on the day which were free to enter for all attendees. Winning the Regional Shiraz Selection of six bottles each of the eleven wines entered was David Jackman from Benalla.

A terrific day was had by all and the exceptional crowds thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you didn't make it you missed a great day, so be sure to mark it in your diary for next year. You can be sure that we'll be doing it all over again!
