History Group up and running

The 2010 calendar contains images of Cowslip St and a copy(s), at $10 each plus postage and packing, can be obtained by contacting the editor.
Earlier this year a group of amateur historians and enthusiasts met to get started on recording the history of Violet Town. Particularly the history after that provided by Don Chambers in his excellent book 'Honeysuckle in Australia Felix' that takes us to about 1908.
Meeting informally at 10am on the second Thursday every month, a dedicated group of Violet Town residents are recalling life here during the last 90-odd years.
We have inspected plans, scanned documents, newspapers and photographs that have been found in old suit cases, shoe boxes and have produced the first of many calendars.
The group has a huge task ahead but will be working methodically through the material that has been gathered and will be gathered including many oral histories that are being recorded for the future.
Planned are a series of booklets of photographs and associated stories and explanations following themes such as public and private buildings, people and their occupations and obviously others.
To participate in discussions, provide your own version of events or just watch [there is quite often a slide show] or listen join the group at the Community meeting room in Cowslip St.
