Violet Town medical general practice commences
After a long community campaign to secure funding from the Commonwealth Government early this year, the citizens of Violet Town and district will soon taste the fruits of their effort.
A full-time Medical General Practice commences on 2 November 2009 at the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre.

The first doctor, Dr Wilmot, commenced the first doctor’s surgery in Violet Town at the house, 'St Elmo', at the west end of Cowslip Street. He was then followed by a Dr Charles Sabelburg. The house was thought to be too far out of town, so a house and surgery were built where the Lily Street units are now.
In 1961 an operating theatre was set up in the Violet Town hospital, in the hope to keep or encourage a doctor, but this was never used. [Ida Burden's story]

The President of the Board of the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre, Mr John Hawkes, announced at their Annual General Meeting held in October 2009, that Dr Tianming Wang has been working closely with the Violet Town Bush Nursing Centre Management and the North East Division of General Practice, to ensure the smooth transition to clinical and business operations.
The communities of Violet Town, Euroa, Strathbogie and Benalla will all benefit from this initiative, as Dr Wang will also participate on the Benalla and District Memorial Hospital’s after hours roster.
