Plant Local, Plant Indigenous workshop in Euroa
Are you interested in learning more about landscaping with indigenous plants? The Sustainable Communities Program in partnership with the Shire of Strathbogie is presenting a special Plant Local, Plant Indigenous workshop at the Euroa Arboretum 76 Old Hume Highway on Saturday 18 September from 11am - 3pm.
Local gardeners are increasingly turning to indigenous plants to beautify and improve their gardens and farms. There are numerous benefits to be gained from growing local plants; they have lower water requirements than exotic species, create a haven for wildlife, can be used for screening, windbreaks and soil stabilisation and are unique in their beauty.
Enjoy an informative and practical presentation by local landscape designer and horticulturalist Rob Hall on the many benefits of landscaping with local plants. The presentation will be followed by a delicious BBQ lunch and a tour of the Euroa Arboretum.
The Arboretum boasts an impressive collection of indigenous native plants set around spectacular ponds which provides displays of various indigenous vegetation of our region. The staff and volunteers are also creating a seed resource to help create improved habitat on farms, properties and public places for the future.
A plant sale will be held at the Arboretum on the day, offering a great opportunity to enhance your garden with local plants at very little cost. As an added bonus, participants can win one of 25 indigenous plant vouchers valued at $25 each, sponsored by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.
The first 30 registrations will receive garden themed Sustainability Kits. Numbers for this workshop are limited so please RSVP to Cathy Koning on 57346357 or cathyk@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au.
Check out the new Sustainable Communities Program website at www.sustainable-communties.com.au for details of forthcoming workshops.
Funding has been received to deliver this program through the Victoria State Government's Sustainability Fund under the Victorian Local Sustainability Accord and the support of Mitchell and Strathbogie Shires and the program's partners.
