Benalla Tennis Association

This week was the last week for tennis before a 3 week Christmas break. The Benalla Tennis Association asked that all games, both Sections 1 and 2, be played at the Benalla Lawn Courts, with a social barbeque at the end of play. This was a great opportunity for everyone to catch up with acquaintances that they may not see during the tennis season. Violet Town White played Benalla Gardens but unfortunately Violet Town White lost by about 20 points.

History Group calendars

The Violet Town History Group calendars are selling extremely well around the town and make great Christmas presents. Of course it was a joke last week that there was a money back guarantee on the 2012 calendar. The photos are collector’s items so make sure you don’t miss out on this year’s calendar.

Christmas breakups

The town is in a festive mood with many Christmas breakups. On Sunday after the football teams had training, which included a run around the Honeysuckle Creek walking track, a family day was held. The highlight was Santa arriving by fire truck.

The CFA volunteers have started visiting all residents in town to give them a “Fire Safety bucket” with literature on fire preparedness. They are happy to answer any queries on fire safety, evacuation and home safety plans. If you haven’t had a visit yet you will certainly get one in the next couple of weeks.

Horrendo and the Revolvers at Ellen Frances

Cathy and Mark at the Ellen Frances had a good night on Saturday with local live band Horrendo and the Revolvers entertaining the patrons. Apparently they were so good they had all the audience up dancing. Many locals and visitors came for the evening and went away very happy. They have been busy with Christmas parties as well with many groups and businesses from in and out of town booking in for their Christmas functions.

VicSwim funding restored

After funding was restored to VicSwim this year, many were left scratching their heads that there was no program planned for the Violet Town pool. After a call was put into Aquatics Victoria they were happy to reinstate the Violet Town program. Seems they thought there was no teacher for Violet Town but when they realised that VT had a teacher who had taught there for the past 20 years they were quick to put it back on. There will be one program - Program 1 - running from Monday 9 – Friday 13 January provided there are enough numbers.

It’s important that children must be registered by the end of this week for this program to run otherwise it will be off again. Enrolment forms can be filled in and payment made online at: http://www.vicswim.com.au/enrol or forms are available to be picked up at Peranbin Primary College – Violet Town Campus. Forms are being sent out with the last student newsletter this week. It’s only $25 for five lessons of 40 minutes duration and might be the difference in saving a life.
