Violet Town News 17 January 2012
Very busy market
Once again the market last weekend was very busy. Gone seem to be the days of a smaller market in January with many market people seeming to come a little later and making a day of it. Cowslip Street was still busy well into the afternoon. The Op Shop had a huge day with their $1 specials on all clothing and took over $1000. The benefits of the market to the town are immeasurable.
Big weekend for Community House
The Community House had a big weekend too with the tin rattle at the market raising over $2230 and they still had a team making pizzas at the wood fired oven. There are big changes at the Community House too in the last week with a painting crew making big changes in the office and the activities room with fantastic terracotta feature walls. It looks great but there is still more to do. When it is finished the set of lovely screen prints donated by Frank McMahon will be beautifully hung for all to appreciate.
Tennis teams are back in action
The tennis teams are back in action after the Christmas break but unfortunately there was a delay in the laying of the two new courts but they will be underway shortly.
Lucy Thorne returns
Lucy Thorne is making a return visit to Violet Town to perform at the Parish on Saturday 28 January. There are only a few tickets left so if you are interested please contact Helen, phone 03 5798 1381. Bookings are essential and a great night is assured. Lucy will be supported by Jo Jo Smith.
VicSwim program
Despite the cooler weather the VicSwim program was a great success. Parents took advantage of the subsidised rate of $25 for the week of lessons. Robbieswim started on Saturday with great numbers in warmer weather. Bookings can be made at the pool or ring Robbie on 03 5798 1631.
Swimming Pool very popular
The swimming pool has been extremely busy with the hot weather earlier in the month and is certainly the place to be on hot days. The initiative of the Shire to give free family passes to rate payers has been fabulous with numbers up at the pool. Many visitors to the town for holidays have commented what a wonderful facility it is. Managers Robin and David go out of their way to make sure it is a welcoming and a safe place to be. They do a great job.
Australia Day
Dot Rae and the Australia Day Committee have the Australia Day breakfast organised and it is always a pleasant morning to catch up with friends. Viki Funnell is the Australia Day Ambassador visiting this year and will be the guest speaker. She is the CEO of the Make a Wish Foundation. There will be entertainment from the Euroa Citizen's Band and the Stringbusters Ukulele Group before the local awards are presented. Violet Town is hosting the Shirewide awards this year so they will also be presented at the breakfast.
