Violet Town news 23 January 2012
Swimming pool action
It was a quiet week in town this week except at the pool. Many people were also busy watching the tennis. A number of people were reporting very poor reception at times on channel 7, rather frustrating when it occurs at vital times in a close match. Apparently it may have something to do with a poor digital signal from Mt Major on channel 7.
Tennis Club
On the local tennis scene work has begun on the replacement of the synthetic grass courts with contractors busy last week. Players are looking forward to trying out the new surface. Violet Town White tennis team played Lawn Red at the Benalla Lawn Courts on Saturday. Lawn Red won 8 sets (82 games) to 4 sets (58 games). Some people found the heat of the day harder to handle than others. The day ended with a great game between James Welsh and Paula Hales for Violet Town and Charlie Boyd and Raylene Lister for Lawn Red. It was a very lengthy match which ended with Violet Town White winning a tie breaker. Everybody enjoyed the day.
The new town signs
The new town signs really are almost ready to go up, after VTAG has been promising their delivery for a number of weeks. Keep your eyes out they may even be up for Australia Day. They will certainly be an attraction to the town.
Australia Day Breakfast
Don't forget the Australia Day Breakfast and on Thursday it is always a relaxing way to start Australia Day. A well known local resident is to become an Australian citizen on Thursday. As usual it starts at 7.30am on the lawns of the Community Complex. Free breakfast with entertaiment from the Euroa Citizens Band and the Stringbusters ukulele group. Vici Funnell, CEO of the Make a Wish Foundation will be the Australia Day Ambassador in attendance. Violet Town are also hosting the Shire awards. So after the Violet Town presentation of Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Community Organisation of the Year will be the Shire wide awards.
