Nowhere is very far.. from Violet Town
Located only two hours drive from Melbourne [90 minutes from Tullamarine], 35 minutes from Shepparton and from Wangaratta, Violet Town is close to all that North East Victoria has to offer.
Not that Violet Town itself doesn't have something to offer, far from it. Apart from being the earliest surveyed town in Victoria, Violet Town has, since 1978, been holding its famous community market each month and now boasts two kilometres of walking [or jogging] track along both sides of Honeysuckle Creek. The trail is located in an environmentally designed parkland with native grasses and plants under huge river gums. The market and the Honeysuckle walk are both are well worth a visit or two.
Violet Town has a number of accommodation options including two hotels, a caravan park and B&Bs nearby. These will make an excellent base for you to explore the north east.

So apart from the major centres mentioned above, as well as Bendigo and Albury, what else is there for the curious visitor to experience.
For starters, you can explore the Strathbogie Ranges, visit the historic towns of Chiltern and Beechworth, the Winton raceway and if your interest lies in Australian history there is the infamous Ned Kelly. You can visit Glenrowan for the scene of the end of his bushranging days but remember Ned Kelly and his family lived and travelled over most of the north east, from as far south as Avenel.
On the east side of the Strathbogie Ranges [known locally as the 'Bogies'] can be found and explored the 'gourmet' King River where there is just about everything you could desire to eat and drink.
There are tracks along disused rail ways that have been converted for your convenience into walking and riding trails, try the one from Wangaratta to Bright, and speaking of Bright you must see this town in Autumn when the leaves turn yellow through to red. There are festivals, wine tastings, olive tastings and in season there is all the fresh stone fruit, apples and pears - the list goes on.
And all of this is just a short drive from Violet Town.
