The Honeysuckle Arts Collective, set up in 2017, is the volunteer group responsible for organizing the Honeysuckle Art Exhibitions and the Motley Crew Radio Shows in Violet Town.
The Honeysuckle Art Exhibitions are held every second year to support and promote established and developing local artists. Works by artists in and around Violet Town and across the North East Region of Victoria are displayed over a two or three-week period in the community-run backART Gallery at 20 Cowslip Street, Violet Town. Not only do the exhibitions support the artists by displaying and selling their work, they also provide the opportunity for the community and visiting public to experience this art, meet the artists, and become aware of the wonderful fine art that exists in our NE Region.
The exhibitions' previous themes have been:
2017 – Ageing
2018 - Shadows
2021 – The Shape of Things
Similarly, the Motley Crew Radio Shows enable local amateur actors and musicians to perform and the local community to see live performances. The light-hearted Motley Crew Radio Shows recreate an old-time radio broadcast from the fictional Radio 3VT station. The show includes a radio drama, musical numbers, advertisements, news, weather, and a comedy.
Both the Honeysuckle Art Exhibitions and the Motley Crew Radio Shows are not-for-profit events that rely on support from grants and local sponsors.
