There are many diverse things to do in Violet Town and the surrounding district and all you need to do is to find one that interests you.
History: For those with a sense of history collect a Heritage brochure from our retailers or print one from this website.
Walk, picnic, play or relax: You can do all of these at the Violet Town Recreation Reserve. Here you will find a children’s playground, BBQs, picnic tables and a beautiful 3 km Honeysuckle walking track along the Honeysuckle Creek which runs through the middle of the Reserve. Read the six information boards as you walk around the track - they contain excellent artwork and interesting reading.
Also in the main street is the Lion’s Park with BBQs, public toilets and a children’s playground - a perfect place to take a break on your travels.
Sport: You will find our charming Violet Town swimming pool, the football and cricket oval, netball and tennis courts, lawn bowls and our small skate park located in the Violet Town Recreation Reserve in Tulip Street.
Market: Every month, on the second Saturday, Violet Town hosts one of the most successful community markets in Victoria’s north east with more than 200 stalls selling farmers' produce as well as hot food, baked goods, coffee, plants, clothing, arts and crafts, a mini children’s animal farm. Held in the Tulip St recreation reserve, it gets busier in the late morning. For the best selection, go early and allow several hours stay if a leisurely pace is desired. There is a lot to see and buy. Market runs from 8:30 am -1.00 pm.
Natural environment: If the environment and natural bushland is of interest then the Strathbogie Ranges is for you. Travel just a few kilometres to the east of Violet Town and delight in the rugged hills, the vista of distant hills and valleys, echidnas, kangaroos, koalas, natural and remnant vegetation and much more. Or visit our local Dingo Haven on the Dookie/Nalinga Road for an up close and personal experience with Australia’s native dog.
Wineries and Restaurants: In the surrounding district can be found a host of places to visit including open gardens, restaurants and wineries. See Strathbogie Shire website http://www.strathbogie.vic.gov.au/
