Community Market
The change in weather didn’t seem to deter the crowds for the May market. Even though it was really chilly the stall holders were enjoying another profitable day. The kindergarten had the tin rattle and were pleased with their collection for the morning. The pizza’s at the wood fired oven were proving yet again, very popular. Orchids seemed to be the choice of gift for Mother’s Day as many beautiful colours and varieties were seen being carried around.
St Dunstan’s Church had a wood raffle and Mothers Day pamper pack at the market. They raised $400 for the church which was very pleasing. Market day was also very busy for the Ellen Frances Hotel with all tables full for lunch followed by the wake for Terry Welsh attended by 60 family members and friends.
Mothers Day lunch
Then, as if they hadn’t been busy enough, 72 people enjoyed a very pleasant Mothers Day lunch at the hotel. Next Saturday 19 May the Victorian Vintage Motor Cycle Club will be visiting the Ellen Frances for lunch and then on Sunday 20 May the GV Ironbunkers Car Club will be coming over for lunch. These are 60’s, 70’s and 80’s cars and a few locals will be joining them with their own cars. Should be quite a display of vehicles outside the hotel on both days.
VTBNC Auxiliary
The VTBNC Auxiliary held their annual Mothers Day raffle with a beautiful fruit cake made and decorated by Barb Ramage first prize and a $50 IGA shopping voucher donated by Kath Ubter second prize. The cake was won by Leanne Russell-Jones and the shopping voucher by Rose Miller. The Auxiliary were thrilled when they found they had raised an astonishing $846.50 for the Nursing Centre.
Motor Neurone Disease
The four walkers for Motor Neurone Disease were absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of Violet Town towards their cause. They enjoyed a delicious roast lamb meal at the footy/netball club last Thursday night that the club insisted was on them. Then the crowd dug deep throwing money into the trusty bucket.
When they visited the Ellen Frances the patrons were quick to give them more money. Even as they left Violet Town early Friday morning they were still being given money, they ended up raising just over $500 from Violet Town alone. They wish to give a special thanks to the football/netball club, the Ellen Frances and the Violet Town community.
Violet Town Volunteers
The Community House would like to invite all Violet Town Volunteers to come along and help celebrate Volunteering in Violet Town and District this Friday, 18 May, 6.30-8.30pm at the Community House. Guest Speaker – Local Award-winning author, Cate Kennedy will tell about her experiences as a volunteer in a small community in Mexico.
The Community House team looks forward to once again celebrating the outstanding contribution volunteers make to our community and beyond. Certificates of Appreciation will be presented and a barbecue tea will be available. They look forward to seeing you there!
St Dunstan’s Hall Film Society
St Dunstan’s Hall Film Society is having the screening of “A Good Year” - PG 2006 this Friday 18 May at 7.30pm. This comedy/drama/romance is about a British investment broker who inherits his uncle’s chateau and vineyard in Provence, where he spent much of his childhood. He discovers a new laid-back lifestyle as he tries to renovate the estate to be sold. It stars Russell Crowe, Abbie Cornish and Albert Finney. Bring your own chair and food to share.
Football and Netball
The firsts had a great win over Lancaster on Sunday, the seconds beat the top side and the thirds weren’t so lucky. The netballers didn’t have a good day out either. The club were delighted to have hosted the four MND walkers and their support crew for dinner last Thursday night.
There are no Thursday night meals at the footy/netball club for the next two weeks, 17 and 24 May. The club has the general league bye this weekend and the following weekend is the Inter league competition so no games for any clubs. The light poles will be going up next Saturday so should be a busy day at the club.
